Oswegatchie Campsites
Our campsites are not typical of what to expect when you hear the word "campsite". During the late 1940s and early 1950s, many of the FFA advisers who were building up our facility, had just gotten out of the military. They were tired of barrack style accommodations like they saw in the military and wanted something different. They realized with all the land owned by Oswegatchie, they could cut roads and trails to the scenic bays and points around the property. Once they developed access, they were able to clear campsites for the FFA boys to use.
Once the tarp style tents they were using started to age, they constructed structure cabins on the sites. This allowed them to have basic structures, but nothing too elaborate. There is no electricity at any campsite, and most have pit privies for bathrooms. On average, each campsite holds 17 people. Typically 15 people in the cabins and 2 people in the lean-tos.
These structures are basic, but almost every site has a great view. You can choose between sites near the main camp or sites 10 minutes from our lodges. We also have sites best paddled to and sites with just lean-tos. Tenting is an option at our most remote sites.
